Predominantly located in northern Queensland, James Cook University is one of the world’s leading institutions focusing on the tropics.
With seven campuses JCU is home to approximately 20,000 students and 5,000 staff.
Established 1970 JCU is a university dedicated to research, conducting nationally significant and internationally recognised research in a multitude of areas from marine sciences and global warming to tourism and tropical medicine, to name just a few.
The unique location of JCU enables their culturally diverse student group from Australia and overseas the opportunity to study in an environment not offered by any other university in the world.
Historically, JCU met its WHS legislative reporting requirements through a paper-based system.
This posed challenges:
JCU realised the need to streamline the incident recording and risk management processes within and across its multiple campus.
The HSE Team undertook an evaluation of the available online safety systems.
RiskWare was found to be the most user-friendly and intuitive system for staff and students.
It provides real-time incident and hazard reporting and allows users to monitor the status of the record in the system at any given time.
Finally, RiskWare provides a standardised framework for risk management at JCU.
"The riskcloud.NET Team have proven to be a worthy adversary in the market of managing Health and Safety using a single tool. Their expertise and input has been very valuable to the HSE Team during the development of new Standards within JCU."

James Cook University
JCU now has a consistent approach to risk management and incident / hazard reporting.
RiskWare has been successfully adopted by the users at JCU because it offers a simplistic approach to reporting and actioning incidents.
RiskWare will form part of an integrated SMS, which will support and progress JCU to be one of the higher education leaders in WHS management.
